Pitblado is committed to supporting its community, and to supporting the Legal Help Centre in Winnipeg.

The Legal Help Centre is a non-profit organization spearheaded by the legal community, working in partnership with the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba. On March 9, 2011, the Centre opened its doors to the public with volunteer judges, lawyers, and law students ready to help. The purpose of the Centre is to provide much needed in-person legal information and referrals to those with potential legal problems or who are unsure of how to obtain legal help.

Candace Grammond, Partner at Pitblado Law, was involved before the Legal Help Centre opened its doors, helping to develop the Centre's robust network of lawyer volunteers and obtaining support for its ongoing operations. Since the inception of the Centre, Pitblado Law has been a strong supporter, through donations of funds and furniture as well as in-person support, requiring all Pitblado articling students to volunteer at the Centre during their articling year.

Karen Dyck, Executive Director of the Legal Help Centre, says "Without the support of legal community partners, such as Pitblado LLP, who provide both volunteer support of lawyers and articling students as well as generous financial support, we could not continue to assist the nearly 3000 individuals who walk through our doors each year looking for help with legal problems. Not only do Pitblado lawyers and articling students make it possible for our clients to get answers to their legal questions, but through the firm's financial contributions, we are able to leverage donor dollars from other sources as well. Pitblado's investment in Legal Help Centre, therefore, produces yields well beyond the actual hours and dollars donated."

The Centre has grown substantially within the past 5 years, and continues to help low-income families exercise their legal and social rights in a safe, confidential, and supportive environment. Drop-in Clinics are available each Tuesday and Friday from 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. and are located at 202 - 393 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
