Pitblado is committed to supporting its community, and to supporting startup businesses in Winnipeg.

In October 2015, Pitblado lawyers Adam Herstein and Andrew Buck launched a program at Innovation Alley to support the startup community, holding office hours twice per month to serve new and emerging business owners. Through collaboration with The University of Manitoba’s Law School, the program was recently evolved to deliver greater community benefit and increase availability to entrepreneurs, and the The Startup Legal Ventures Clinic (SLVC) was born.

The Startup Legal Ventures Clinic (SLVC) delivers no-charge legal services on appointment-only basis to entrepreneurs who have applied to become clients of SLVC, and also welcomes entrepreneurs to visit during its “office hours” for general inquiries. Subject to availability, Herstein and Buck will share insight on basic legal questions and procedures relevant to early-stage startups, including issues related to creating a company, documenting and transferring intellectual property and reviewing and preparing agreements which are common to startups, including supplier agreements and employment agreements.
